Our Approach

Analyze Secondary Data

The Healthy Communities Institute web platform is used to analyze secondary data for the seven-county area. This data source combines multiple data sources on more than 130 health indicators and socio-economic factors and can be accessed on Parkview’s website.

Collect Primary Data

Primary data is collected through surveying randomly selected residents using questions derived from the Centers for Disease Control’s Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System (CDC-BRFSS). Input was also obtained through surveying healthcare and social service professionals and conducting focus groups consisting of community members.

Identify Top Needs

Secondary data and community input is synthesized and used to identify the top health needs in each of the seven counties. The identified health needs are documented in a data summary using relevant comparisons, trends and benchmarks.

Select Priorities

Prioritization of the identified health needs is accomplished through use of the Hanlon Method which applies criteria to identify both prioritization of the problem in addition to criteria to identify the intervention. This is a recommended method by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).
