A Good Idea

This practice has been Archived and is no longer maintained.

Description

While the need for mental health intervention is increasing, services are decreasing because of economic trends, state budget cuts, and limited access to mental health providers in the community. In 2002, Caring For Colorado Foundation awarded Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) a grant to develop a service and practice model for public health, integrating a mental health model within public health care. The project's aim is to help individuals in Jefferson County who cannot avail themselves of mental health services but who need assistance not only in accessing mental services but also in receiving initial assessment and brief counseling services.

Goal / Mission

The goals of this program are:

-To provide staff with consultation, clinical support, education and training.
-To provide clients with initial assessment, brief counseling, and access/referral to mental health resources.

Results / Accomplishments

Over the past two years, the MHS has developed collaborative relationships with JCDHE staff and community agencies and provided education and consultative services in the area of mental health. In addition, the staff Mental Health Specialist has provided mental health services to clients who need initial assessment and brief counseling services, or require assistance in accessing mental health services.
