Volunteers in Neighborhood Services (VINS)

A Good Idea

Description

Volunteers in Neighborhood Services (VINS) is part of the Strong Neighborhoods Initiative whose mission is to promote city pride, increase property values, and encourage residents to improve their homes, streets, and communities. The Strong Neighborhoods Initiative plans to provide residents with education about community standards for code compliance and partner with organizations that can assist residents with improving the safety and condition of homes.

Volunteers are encouraged to participate in any capacity and are not required to complete a specific number of hours. Projects that are available to volunteers include, but are not limited to: Adopt a Neighborhood, Graffiti Abatement, Event Planning, and the Clean Corridor Program (street cleaning).

Goal / Mission

The goal of the program is to use volunteerism to instill community pride while promoting and improving the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of Rancho Cordova.

Results / Accomplishments

Since 2007, over 200 volunteers have participated in a variety of projects. These volunteers have provided landscaping services for 7 homes whose residents were incapable of gardening for various reasons and have assisted in removing over a 1,000 cubic yards of garbage from residential areas of the city.
