Strong4Life

A Good Idea

Description

Strong4Life, a movement for improving child wellness and reducing childhood obesity, runs several programs to combat childhood obesity. Help is offered directly to families through the Health4Life Program, which evaluates and treats childhood obesity through a multi-specialty and evidence-based approach. Camp Strong4Life is a camp that aims to help overweight and obese children increase physical activity, improve eating habits, and heighten their motivation to engage in healthy behaviors. Other programs collaborate with early child care centers and schools to educate school professionals, increase physical activity and healthy eating, and ensure that the school environment supports healthy lifestyles for children. Additionally, Strong4Life Provider Training teaches physicians how to have effective conversations with their patients and families to encourage healthy lifestyles.

Goal / Mission

Strong4Life is a statewide movement to inspire kids and families to develop lifelong healthy habits, one positive step at a time.

Results / Accomplishments

Strong4Life has implemented the Student Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) initiative, a statewide mandate requiring standardized fitness assessment in public schools. An advertising campaign targeting childhood obesity has also brought attention to the issue in local media. Camp Strong4Life enrolls new participants annually.
